I'm slowly losing my mind...

If it's not toothpaste all over the bathroom, it's marker all over the doll house. Or crayon on the walls. Or the sugar bowl spilled all over the counter and floor. Or the dog's water bowl spilled on the kitchen floor...I really could go on!
I clean one room, the 2 short ones mess up another. And it goes round and round and round....never a dull day!

I like vacuuming. Well, actually, I LOVE vacuuming...the feeling of sucking up all that dirt (and dog hair!) and hearing all the little bits rattling their way down the hose and into the basement is a very rewarding thing for me.
So part of me is fine with the kids making messes, not taking off their shoes, spills etc. Unless I just vacuumed. Then that bothers me.
I wonder if someday I will begin to hate vacuuming, but with 4 kids its a good thing I like love it!

Salmon Run 2010

So this year was a record for the number of salmon that came back to spawn in the interior of BC. Every 4 years, the salmon return to spawn where they themselves hatched. It was a wonder to see, just amazing the amount of fish that were jumping and swimming along.
And then the amount of dead that had done what they had set out to do, and were now lining the shore for many miles.
I could not pass up a picture of this monster! He was quite a bit larger than the other fish, and those teeth!!! Yikes!

We went with some friends and spent the morning just hiking and checking out all the thousands of fish still trying to lay their eggs. It was a beautiful thing to see, and like nothing we have in the prairies! We were blessed to be living here at the time and to be so close to all the action!
Here are a few more shots from that day:

Biscuit Sandwiches

So we tried something new the other day - Biscuits, with turkey, bacon, cheese and egg. Man were they ever good! Scott would say that anything with bacon and cheese HAS to be good, well I think he is right!
The biscuit recipe I found was a little crumbly, but it worked.

Biscuit Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.

Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut shortening in until mixture has a fine crumb texture. Stir in milk with a fork to make a soft dough. Knead 8 to 10 times, and then roll out to a thickness of at least 1/2 inch. Cut into rounds with a cookie or biscuit cutter. Place on cookie sheet, and allow to rest for a few minutes.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve warm.

Then just add a meat like turkey, ham, salami - whatever you like! Add some bacon, cheese of your choice, and maybe some ranch dressing or other favorite for a bit of kick, and voila! Ready for breakfast!

Toilet Paper Craft!

We recently started saving toilet paper rolls in our house, with the idea of making something with them. I had found a neat blog with some really cool Christmas decoration ideas on it, but my mommy brain stored that bit of info in the recycle bin, and it has since been emptied! :)

My kids and I did however try our hand at making something out of the rolls, and here is what we came up with:

It was a lot of fun, but I am always on the lookout for more ideas with toilet paper rolls! My stash is starting to get bigger by the day!! :)
